Location, Location, Location…

You know the feeling when you walk into a beautiful room or you see perfectly staged photos on pinterest? Having that type of energy in your art space is immensely important. Your environment influences everything. Your energy, your motivation, and your inspiration.

Feeling at home and in sync with your environment can help with the creative process. When you love being in your creative space it makes creating easier and flow so much more smoothly. Being in love with the space you’re in can also bring inspiration. I can’t tell you how many times I have had art-block and had the drive to create but not a single idea in my head, but I go to my creative space and it just flows. Having a workspace that you love and feels like a true reflection of you is the best feeling, especially when it comes to being a creative person.

When you surround yourself with things that put off those immaculate, beautiful Pinterest vibes YOU feel stellar and like you could create anything you put your mind to. That is the goal for any creative space. Those optimal vibes vary widely depending on the person. It could be a coffee shop, a she-shed in your backyard, or a spare room crammed with plants and supplies. For me, it’s the latter. I love the 70’s vibes right now and having living green things year round is super mood boosting. I’m working on a 70’s stripes mural in my studio to boost those vibes (Check my insta for finished pics!) It’s coming along beautifully and I love the energy it’s bringing to the room. But my perfect art room may be way too chaotic for someone else. I like seeing where other artists create and how they choose to decorate their space. I feel like it gives an insight into how they think when they create their art. For a long time I only had sketchbooks and random supplies in my bedroom but I always loved decorating the covers of my sketchbooks with stickers and little doodles that made me happy. I can’t tell you how many sketchbooks had Captain America stickers on them.

Don’t feel like you can’t be an amazing artist even if you don’t have the perfect work space. Life is a fickle bitch and not everyone has the space and resources to rent a studio or have a whole spare room to dedicate to art. You just have to start somewhere whether that’s a sunny corner of your bedroom or a single sketchbook that you can customize. Just have a space that is just for creating and just for you. These spaces are a work in progress, just like you. These spaces don’t have to be perfect. They are a reflection of you and your inspirations and they don’t have to be Pinterest worthy. You don’t have to have the biggest, most vibe-tastic art space to be a good artist. You just have to make art! Does having a good creative space help the process, 100% but it is not necessary to be able to create a great piece.
